The National Trust Movement’s position on the UN Doha Conference

Convening of the Third Session of the United Nations conference in Doha, without the real representatives of the people of Afghanistan, the absence of Afghan womenadvocating for their rights and with the sole participation of the illegitimate Taliban rulers is a shameEspecially given the fact that most important Taliban leaders’ names are still on the United Nations global terrorist’s blacklist. The National Trust Movement of Afghanistan expresses its deep concern and bitter disappointment about the disastrousconsequences of such engagementsWe believe any meeting in which the real representatives of the people of Afghanistan are not playing a fundamental role and its management is not in the hands of the Afghans themselves, cannot serve the interest of the people or their national interests.

We expected that the United Nations, at least in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2721, would appoint the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the U N, based on the proposal of Feridun Sinirlioğlu, so that s/he could undertake the task of organizing the intra-Afghan dialogues and find a solution to the deep crisis that the rise of the Taliban to power has plunged Afghan society. Unfortunately, not only the United Nations has failed to implement this Security Council resolution, even the appointment of the Secretary-General’s Special Representative has not been included inthe agenda of the third Doha conference. This failure of the UN is a matter of deep alarmto the people of Afghanistan.

In contrast, the United Nations and the countries of the region and the world, have accepted the demands of the illegitimate Taliban rulers and included them in the agenda of the third Doha meeting, which may help prolong survival of their illegitimate rule and gain them legitimacy. Such engagement between global and regional powers, led by the United Nations, cannot be beneficial for the Afghan people and for solving the complex problem of our society.

We call on all international institutions and organizations to recognize the real representatives of the people as the sole decision-makers in such meetings and to ensure that the decision-making process is transparent and democratic.

The National Trust Movement believes that an alternative independent national political address should be formed by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-Generalwhen appointed based on Security Council Resolution 2721 and to help organize the necessary intra-Afghan dialogues. Such an address can be created through holding healthy political discussions between the citizens of the country both inside and outsideand could result in the formation of an independent national trans-ethnic movement committed to the rights of citizens based on democratic governance. Through such an address, the basic demands of the people promoting the national interests will become the basis for negotiations with the relevant countries in the region and the world. We expect that the international organizations and the United Nations will try to arrange such healthy discussions among the citizens of our country very soon.

The prolongation of the Taliban rule is nothing but the continuity of the catastrophe in Afghanistan and the region. Any attempt to justify or manipulate the façade to give legitimacy to the illegitimate Taliban Emirate is futile and is rejected by the National Trust Movement, “NAM“.
